Doctors remove eyes from baby girl born with severe eye problem (Photos)


 A tragic baby girl with a severe cleft palate was born with her eyes facing inwards and skin covering the outside - prompting doctors to remove them.


Nittaya Muangmon was blind thanks to her deformity, and her tiny fingers were also stuck together.


Now eight months old, the tot's feet hadn't developed in the womb - leaving her with just stumps on her legs.


Baffled medics in Hat Yai, southern Thailand, amputated both her eyes leaving her permanently blind and desperately in need of artificial glass eyes.

Locals monks have donated 25,000THB - £500 - towards reconstructive facial surgery for the condition - believed to be just one of 50 cases in the world of Tessier Cleft Lip and Palate.

But mom Paniya, who is just 15 years old, is now hoping to raise more towards the cost several operations in Thailand.


She said: "I'm worried my daughter will have a hard life when she grows up and be laughed at by the other children.


"Life will be hard enough for her. But I want her to look as normal as possible.



'People stare at my baby and say I should have aborted him but he's a miracle'

"When I saw her face the first time I felt so sorry for her. I hope she grows up soon then she can have the surgery for her face and artificial eyes."

Doctors have to wait until Nittaya is three years old before they can perform the operations.


Severe clefts that cover the whole of a child's face including their eyes are rare - and there are believed to be fewer than 50 cases worldwide of babies whose eyes are destroyed by the condition.


Nittaya's entire body was affected by the condition and even the back of her knee is joined to her calf, which will make walking harder for her when she is older.

She has just four fingers on each hand which are 'webbed' together while her nose is twisted out of shape.

Local monks have now started helping the single mother whose boyfriend left before the child was born.


A senior monk at local temple said: "Nittaya's eyes wee turned inwards when she was born and they had to be removed by doctors.
